How to Treat Hematuria Problem Naturally

Hematuria — blood in the urine — isn't a disease in itself, but a symptom. It can be caused by a urinary tract infection, a kidney stone or an injury to a kidney. It occurs in some distance runners, too. If all these are ruled out, consider what you have been drinking.

Pepsi and Coca-Cola — and probably all carbonated soft drinks — can be hard on your body. Daniel Thompson, a doctor in Wichita, Kansas, says he has discovered that soft drinks can cause haematuria. In a letter to the Journal of the American Medical Association, Dr. Thompson detailed two cases of men with haematuria. Both men were hospitalized, and after three days their haematuria stopped.

'Both of these patients were released to return to work on the same day, Dr. Thompson wrote. 'They both returned within the week with gross hematuria. They both had identical jobs at soft-drink bottling plants checking bottles for foreign material. When they were thirsty, they would take a bottle of carbonated beverage off the line and drink it. They rarely drank water. They were both advised to drink no more soda pop, and neither had hematuria again that summer. ' Dr. Thompson told us that the men worked at a Coca-Cola and a Pepsi bottling plant.

And at the very moment we called, Dr. Thompson told us, there was a ten-year-old girl 'in my office right now' with physical problems from drinking soda. The girl did not have blood in her urine but had burning when she urinated.

'What we see in lots of kids — the hot and heavy drinkers of soda pop — are difficulty in sleeping, belly aches, burning during urination and blood in the urine,' Dr. Thompson told us.

Things may go better with Coke, but people go better without it, it seems. Especially younger people — the primary-school children and teenagers who drink more than their share of the billions of pounds worth of soft drinks sold every year.

What are the long-term effects of this habit? Dr. Thompson wanted to see more facts before answering. But he knew one thing for sure: ' Certainly not good health. '
